Nicholas Silva

Nicholas Silva, 85, of Port Clinton, Ohio died peacefully with his family by his side, on Monday, September 19, 2011 at his residence. He was born on November 26, 1925 in Concepcion, Texas, the son of the late Guadalupe and Marcela (Salinas) Silva. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during WWII. He married Beatrice Flores on May 22, 1948 and she preceded him in death on January 9, 1999. He worked as a machine operator at the former Chrysler plant in Sandusky for over 20 years, retiring in the mid 1980’s. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton; member of VFW Post #2480, Port Clinton; and former member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie #2295, Port Clinton. In September 2009, he participated in “Operation Restore Honor”, in which he was a Bronze Star recipient. He was also the Grand Marshall at the 2011 Memorial Day Parade in Port Clinton. His hobbies included fishing, working on cars, watching western and WWII movies, reading WWII books, and making people laugh. .Survivors include his children: Antonia Barbara Slomsky, Port Clinton; Manuel Nicolas Silva, Indianapolis, IN; David Silva, Highpoint, NC; Guadalupe (Lupe) Silva, Port Clinton; Michael Silva, Port Clinton; Patricia Ann Fletcher, Port Clinton; grandchildren: Erika, Stephan, Jordan, Eric, Casandra, Anthony, Matthew, Laurie, Jennifer, Dustin, Daisy; fifteen great grandchildren; brothers: John R. Silva, Fremont, OH; Emede Silva, Helena, OH; Luis Silva, Port Clinton; and sister: Hortencia (Tensha) Portalez, Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter: Susana Silva; sons: Arturo Silva, Hector Cardona; brothers: Manuel S. Silva, Mauricio S. Silva, Jose Maria Silva; and sister: Angela Marquez. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6-8 pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Friday, September 23, 2011. Reverend John C. Missler will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
