Nicholas A. Peto

Nicholas A. “Nick” Peto, Jr, 66, of Port Clinton, OH, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton. He was born in Port Clinton on June 29, 1939, a son of the late Nicholas A. and Rose (Gregorsok) Peto. Nick was the owner and operator of Country Tire and Auto in Port Clinton. He previously owned Lakeview Marathon, Port Clinton, and was a U-Haul dealer for over 25 years. Nick was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, Elks Lodge No 1718, Port Clinton; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1610, Port Clinton; Eagles Lodge Aerie No 2295, Port Clinton. He was a Charter member of the Erie Township Volunteer Fire Department and also a member of Port Clinton Fire Department. A former Portage Township trustee, Nick enjoyed gardening and farming. He married Phyllis Ward on May 16, 1959, and she survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Sobre Peto, Port Clinton; brother: Steven Peto, Port Clinton; sisters, Kathryn Kopchak, Charlotte Lauer, and Cynthia Kokinda all of Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Grodi. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 15, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, with Rev. James Lehman officiating. Friends may call from 2-8 P.M. Wednesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where the family will be present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. An Elks Lodge of Sorrow will be held at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be given to Erie Twp Volunteer Fire Department, Port Clinton Fire Department, or the American Diabetes Association.
