Naomi P. Garnese, 99 of Port Clinton, OH and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her home. She was born March 3, 1922 in Altoona, PA to the late Morris W. and Anna M. (Bickel) Ramsey. She married Frank A. Garnese in 1945 in the chapel at Camp Perry, and he preceded her in death in 1987. Naomi began her Civil Service career for the Department of Defense at Letterkenny in PA, came to Camp Perry and EOD in Port Clinton, transferred to Navajo Army Depot in AZ, then retired from Fort Ord in CA. She received many awards, most noteworthy being the Commander's Award (Naomi was the first non-military female to receive this). She attended Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton. She was also a member of NARFE and other organizations over the years. For Naomi, family was always first. She enjoyed music and dancing, her vegetable and floral gardens, writing poetry, compiling scrapbooks and photo albums, animals, collecting cookbooks and recipes, and planning family vacations and events. She was generous to a fault, helping anyone in need, whether human or animal. Her door was always open. Quick to make friends and to keep them,, she had many dear to her heart. She has said, “If you can't remember the name 'Naomi', just call me Toni Baloney!” Survivors include her daughter Barbara (Max) McLaury of Port Clinton, OH; son Weldon Johnston of Valrico, FL; many grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great- great grandchildren; sister Betty Yeager of Chambersburg, PA; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sons Frank Garnese Jr and Louis Johnston; brothers: Benjamin, Joseph, and Billie Ramsey; ½ brother Raymond Ramsey; and sister Thelma Swope. Services will begin at 11am on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Peace Lutheran Church, 900 Jefferson St, Port Clinton, OH 43452, Pastor Dane Meuschke officiating, with the family to receive friends at the church beginning at 10am. Her body will then be interred in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Salinas, CA. Those wishing to make a donation are asked to consider St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
