Nancy Yates Dunham, 90, of Port Clinton passed away on September 28, 2024 at her home on Catawba Island. She was born on January 21, 1934 in Cincinnati. Preceding her in death were her parents Roy and Mary Yates, brother Roy Yates, Jr., and son Mark Dunham. Surviving her is her husband Richard Dunham, whom she married on August 29, 1953, daughter Suzy (Gary) Wittenmyer, son Theo (Julie) Dunham, grandchildren Michael (Laura) Dunham, Tyler (Kristin) Wittenmyer, Alison (Geoffrey) Hall and three great-grandchildren.
Nancy and Dick recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Nancy taught art, history and English in Port Clinton High School for 25 years retiring in 1989.
Graduating from Libbey High School in Toledo in 1952 she earned her BA degree from The University of Toledo and her MFA degree from Bowling Green State University. She traveled extensively to Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
She inspired many with her original paintings, poetry, writing and editing talents. Nancy was an avid reader and writer, sharing this passion with several area book clubs and writing circles. An active member of the Ottawa County Historical Society, serving as president for a number of years, Nancy was instrumental in the Oral History of Ottawa County.
A celebration of Nancy’s Life will be on October 11, 2024. A visitation time begins at 6:00 pm followed by a service at 7:00 pm at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, OH.
