Myron A. Witt, 100, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, 10 days after celebrating his 100th birthday. He was born on the family homestead in Salem Township on April 25, 1911, a son of Theodore & Ottelia (Pomranke) Witt. Myron was a 1930 graduate of the former Salem-Oak Harbor High School, where he was captain of the football team. While in high school, he delivered ice and also delivered butter and eggs while working at the former Hockin Dairy. On November 11, 1933, he married his high school classmate, the former Eleanor M. Schroeder at St. Paul Evangelical Church by the Rev. Otto C. Doenges. Myron managed a local gas station for several years before opening his own electrical, heating, and plumbing business in the early 1940's. Witt & Associates operated in several locations in Oak Harbor before moving into the present location of Witt & Gaines on South Locust Street. He retired in 1988, turning the business over to his sons. Myron and Eleanor spent many winters at their home in Ruskin, Florida, enjoyed dancing, gardening, and especially spending time with their family. Well known for his sense of humor, Myron was a great story and joke teller. He was a former member of the church council of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he served as president for three years. A member of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club for over 50 years, Myron was recently presented with a lifetime membership. His wife of nearly 69 years, Eleanor, preceded him in death on June 29, 2002. Myron is survived by his sons, Thomas M. (Carolyn) Witt, Oak Harbor, David L. (Beth) Witt, Fremont, Ohio; daughters, Jeanne E. (Bill Hoffman) Nahm and Sally Ann (Robert) Sentle, both of Toledo, Ohio; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
