Mike Bodnar, Jr.

October 29, 1929 — April 5, 2017

Mike Bodnar, Jr., 87, of Lakeside, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on October 29, 1929 in Central City, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Mike and Anna (Portyak) Bodnar, Sr. He married Mary Ann Robel on November 7, 1959 and she preceded him in death on June 29, 1986. Mike was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1948-1958 serving during the Korean War. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served another 10 years from 1958-1968 during the Vietnam War. He was a Flight Engine Mechanic while enlisted in the Navy and a Jet Engine Technician while in the Air Force. He was the Foreman at Standard Products in Port Clinton until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Marblehead; member of the Stanley Jadwisiak VFW Post #7572 in Marblehead; and member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1286. Mike enjoyed being outside and could often be seen mowing his lawn as well as mowing his neighbor's lawns. He joined a travel group from Fremont, Ohio and took many trips traveling to Costa Rica and the Caribbean with his life partner, Shirley. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family and all of his close neighbors. Survivors include his sons: Mark (Sue) Bodnar, Temperance, Michigan and Michael Bodnar, Cape Canaveral, Florida; and life partner, Shirley Ratzmann, Fremont, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and six sisters. Per Mike's request, there will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. Private burial will take place at a later date in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Marblehead. The Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead, is assisting the family with arrangements.
