Mercedes A. Traverso

Mercedes A Traverso, 97, of Put-in-Bay, died Sunday September 20, 2009 at Providence Care Center in Sandusky. She was born September 29, 1911 at Put-in-Bay, the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth (Cucchi) Traverso. Mercy was formerly employed with the U.S. Postal Service on the island, and was the longtime owner of Tony's Place. She was a member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Surviving are her sisters, Elizabeth Prezy and Barbara Heineman of Put-in-Bay; brothers, Arthur Traverso of Berea and Raymond Traverso of Put-in-Bay; seven nieces and nephews and nine great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Valerian, Edward, and Norman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday at the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church with the Rev. Nicholas Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Mapleleaf Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stein Hospice or Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, is handling arrangements for the family.
