Max L. Harshman, of Marblehead, OH passed away Thursday,
November 30, 2023, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky,
Ohio after a sudden illness. He was born in Randolph County, Indiana, the son of
Glen and Ruth Harshman. Max graduated from Spartanburg High School and the Gale
Institute, Minneapolis, MN, following which he went to work for the B & O Railroad.
He retired from CSX after 43 years of employment.
Max was a devoted golfer, having won the club championship at the former Rolling Acres Golf Course
and was runner up the next year. He loved anything pertaining to the railroad, but most of all loved his family, especially his many nieces and nephews.
Max is survived by his wife Marilyn, (Gott), to whom he was married for 48 years.
He served his country in the United States Army and had been a member of
Christ Community Evangelical Free Church prior to moving to Marblehead. He was a
member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks, The American Legion and the
National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Unit144 (N.A.R.V.E.)
Also surviving are his sisters: Patricia (Carroll) Stracener
of Muncie, IN, Joyce Atwood of Ormond Beach, FL; brother-in-law: Michael (Terri) Gott; sisters-in-law:
Janice Harshman, Ruth Harshman, Doris Harshman, Linda (Marvin) Stuart and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Glen and Ruth
Harshman; brothers: James Harshman, C. Robert Harshman, Richard Harshman,
Glen Junior Harshman, Dale Harshman, John Harshman; sisters: Catherine
Parsons, Linda Harshman, Margaret Bryant, JoAnn Gore, Mary Garner,
Mabel Crawley, Phyllis Shull.; and brother-in-law: Gary Gott
A celebration of his life with family and friends will be held 11:30 am Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Mt. Vernon Estates and Event Center, 1041 U.S. 250, Ashland, OH 44805 where many funny Max stories will doubtlessly be shared. Burial will take place in Spartanburg, IN.
Max felt that he and Marilyn had been greatly blessed and had a heart for giving.
