Maurice A. Nighswander

August 19, 1923 — November 29, 2013

Maurice A. Nighswander, 90 years young of Woodville, OH and formerly of Fremont, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Bridge Hospice in Bowling Green, OH. He was born August 19, 1923 in Tiffin, OH to the late Ralph W. and Mary E. (Feassel) Nighswander. He was a 1941 graduate of Old Fort High School. He served our country in Europe as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII where he received many medals of Honor. He drove a "Tony's" Bread truck in his younger years and was employed by Western and Southern Life Insurance Company where he retired. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elmore and loved photography and playing golf with his wife Evelyn. After the passing of his wife, Evelyn in 2010, he continued to live in Fremont. In 2012, he sold his home in Fremont and moved to Woodville to be closer to his daughter, Vickie and her husband Fred. In August of 2013, it became necessary for him to move to an assisted living facility wherein he chose Otterbein Portage Valley, Pemberville, OH. In his later years, he became a man of great faith. Praise be to God, he has gone home to be with the loved ones who have gone before him. He was a man of great faith and integrity and those who loved him will never forget the joy he brought to their lives. Survivors include his step-children: Vickie L. (Fred) Friar, of Elmore, OH, and Claudia (Leland) Reimer of Helena, OH; sisters: Annabelle Marie Shaull, Bernita Tippin, JoAn Lloyd all of Tiffin, OH, and Mary Lou Brown of Fostoria, OH; step- grandchildren, step- great-grandchildren and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife's Jane (McMertrie) and Evelyn M. (Hodgkinson) and step- daughter, Marshelle M. Lorentz. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elmore with the Rev. Stephen Lutz officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10am Thursday at the Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont. Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Bridge Hospice Care Center. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.crosserfuneralhome.com.
