MaryAnn K. Hickman, 91 of Port Clinton, OH passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at her home following a long and happy life. Born July 10, 1932 to Fred and Kathryn (Claypool) Karlovetz in Chicago, IL, MaryAnn grew up on a farm caring for her younger sisters Roselyn and Kay, as well as helping when she wasn’t being scared off by the chickens or sitting astride a tree branch pretending to ride Black Beauty.
She began teaching while still in school & graduated as Fremont Ross’s Valedictorian in 1950. MaryAnn continued assisting local schoolteachers while studying education at Bowling Green State University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and a resident of the boisterous Kohl Hall. She taught at Gibsonburg Grade School for most of her career and before retiring, worked at Firelands BGSU. MaryAnn is remembered for the countless things she taught us all and her enthusiasm for NASCAR.
Survivors include her sons: Bradley, Bruce, and Brian Hickman; grandchildren: Nathan (Zuzana) Hickman, Nicholas (Amber) Hickman, Katelin (Eric) Budge, Juliana (Peter) Schvarcz: great-grandchildren: Alex & Sophie Hickman, Kyra & Lilly Hickman, Florence Budge, Mia Schvarcz, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, (and a very fat cat).
Services will be announced at a later date by Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Port Clinton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton or Trinity Lutheran Church, Sandusky.
