Mary Katherine Wagner

January 14, 1930 — January 4, 2023

Mary Katherine Wagner, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, January 4, 2023, just a few days shy of her 93rd birthday. Mary was born in Auglaize County, Ohio, on January 14, 1930, to Harold H. and Vera E. (Shaffer) Gray. She attended Wittenberg College and Ohio State University and worked at the Farm Bureau of Workman’s Compensation in Columbus, Ohio, for many years before marrying Glen W. Wagner on September 30, 1961, in Toledo, Ohio.

Mary and Glen resided in their home in the Catawba Cliffs their entire married life, where they enjoyed many family, friend, and neighbor gatherings throughout their 61 wonderful years together. They have one daughter Christina R. Maul living in Colorado and two grandsons Brendan T. Maul and Brian C. Maul.

Mary loved playing golf and was club champion of the women’s golf division at the Catawba Island Club fourteen times. Her golf legacy continues at the CIC as the women golfers compete in the “Wagner Cup” every summer. She was also an avid bridge player, enjoying rubber and duplicate bridge. Mary was an enthusiastic competitor and enjoyed competing in everything from golf tournaments and bridge to friendly games of Euchre with the family.

She was an active member of Chapter AI of the P.E.O. sisterhood for over fifty years. She was a member of the Port Clinton Literary & Social Club, the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered in the Magruder Hospital Radiology Department for many years. Mary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton since 1961.

Most of all, Mary enjoyed entertaining and having fun and with family and friends, always with a bright smile. When it became more difficult to leave the house, she would continue to cheer for the Buckeyes football team, especially during the Ohio State Michigan game, as Glen was a Michigan graduate and avid fan of the Wolverines.

She is survived by her husband Glen, who is 102 years old, daughter Chris, and grandson’s Brendan and Brian. She is preceded in death by her brother Roderick Gray. Our family will be forever grateful to Brendan, who after graduating college, came to Catawba to make it possible for his grandparents to stay in their home. His compassion, patience, and love, for them over the past three years has been a remarkable gift to our family. We would also like to thank Stein Hospice, and especially Tonya, for the love and care of Mary over the past year and a half, and the caregivers of Home Instead who aided in Mary’s care over the past 5 months. Services will be held January 14, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams St., Port Clinton, Ohio 43452. Memorial contributions may be made to the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, 615 Fulton St, Port Clinton, OH 43452 or St John Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.neideckercrosserpriesman.com . Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Port Clinton is handling the arrangements.
