Mary Kathryn (Zehner) Windisch of Lake Wales, FL, and formerly of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024 at her residence.
She was born June 23, 1927 in Oak Harbor to the late Harry and Lydia (Myerholtz) Zehner. She moved to Lake Wales in 2012 after wintering there for many years. Mary was a beloved music teacher in Ohio prior to her retirement in 1986.
Mary was an avid golfer, bicyclist, swimmer, walker, crossword enthusiast and bridge player. Her talents included playing the accordion, piano, guitar and sousaphone. One of her passions was being a tour guide at Bok Tower for over 20 years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the food banks in Fremont, Ohio and Lake Wales. She was choir director at Saddlebag Community Church. Previously she sang in the Senior Choir, taught Sunday School and organized the Guitar Choir at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Faith and family and music were her cornerstones.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frederick. She is survived by her daughters Beth (David) Witt of Fremont, Ohio and Carol (Lawrence) Sullivan of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; son Ray (Elizabeth Rust) Windisch of Marysville, Ohio. Grandchildren include Keith (Christy Cramer) Witt, Karen (Doug) Jopek, Corinne (Rob) Bohnenkamp and Isaac (Meri Oliva) Windisch. Great grandchildren are Calan Witt, Ava Witt, Madison Slesinger and Dylan Jopek.
Friends may call from 9-11 A.M. Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at noon Saturday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor. Pastor Becky Bolander will officiate, and interment will be at Salem Township,Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor at a later date. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the Social Room of the church. Those planning on giving a memorial contribution are asked to please consider the Organ Restoration Fund of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, or Lake Wales Care Center.
