Mary Jane Huffman, 68, of Catawba Island, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. She was born on January 28, 1945 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Margery (Ott) Trost. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sandusky in 1963 and then went to Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati, graduating in 1967. On December 27, 1968 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky, she married David A. Huffman and he survives. Mary Jane taught French and English in the Sandusky School System, and recently retired as a substitute teacher for the Port Clinton School System. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton where she served as a Lector and Minister of Holy Communion; she was Past President of Immaculate Conception St. Vincent de Paul Society as well as Past President of the East District of Toledo Diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was a 10 year resident of The Vineyard on Catawba where she served as Past President and Secretary of the Resident Association; and was currently the Recording Secretary of the Vineyard Voices. She was instrumental in coordinating the Book Club and the Health and Wellness Group at The Vineyard, and was a current member on the Board Committee on Marketing and Public Relations. Her hobbies included playing scrabble & pinochle, cooking, baking, flower gardening and spending time with her family and friends, and most recently being a doting grandma to her grandson, Skyler. Also surviving are her sons: Andrew J. (Gina) Huffman, Westlake, Ohio; Jonathan Huffman, Lockport, New York; and Edward (Kelly) Huffman, Roseburg, Oregon; one grandson: Skyler James Huffman; brother: William (Mary Ann) Trost, Oberlin, Ohio; two nephews, and many cousins. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Prayers will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Father John C. Missler and Father Raymond Ensman officiating. Per Mary Jane's wishes, cremation will then take place.
