Mary Ann Brown, 94, of Marblehead, Ohio passed away peacefully at her niece's residence in Port Clinton, Ohio on Thursday, March 20, 2014. She was born on July 23, 1919 in Marblehead, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Gresh) Tverdick. Mary began her working career as a young girl at the end of World War II, at a hospital at Camp Perry where she took care of the wounded soldiers. She then went to work at the former Standard Products in Port Clinton until her retirement. While at Standard Products, she was a member of the "Matthews" bowling team as she was an avid bowler. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead, where she was also a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. She was a certified Red Cross nurse's aide when she worked in the emergency room at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton for over 10 years. Her passion in life was caring for others as she often took in people and cared for them. She was a very generous and giving person, always putting others needs above her own, which led her to volunteer at various charities throughout her life. She loved cooking and helped feed those who had nothing to eat. She was also an avid flower gardener as she provided flowers for the altar at St. Joseph Catholic Church for the weekend masses. Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Diane Slobodian Jordan, Port Clinton; Bonnie St. Aubin, Whitmore Lake, Michigan; Allen Distel and Kenneth Distel, Michigan; Mark Slobodian, Pennsylvania; great-nephews: David St. Aubin and Kenneth St. Aubin; great niece and nephew: Emily Slobodian, Brian & Stacy Distel. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Anne Tverdick, Josephine Distel, and Margaret Slobodian; and brothers: Michael and George Tverdick. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. On Tuesday, March 25, 2014 additional visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead, from 10am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am with Father Daniel J. Ring officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church for masses or to Hospice of Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Ohio.
