Marie B. Kern

Marie B. Kern, 89, of Oak Harbor, OH died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at her home. She was born October 30, 1923 in Oak Harbor, to the late Walter and Ella (Meinke) Wendt. She was a 1941 graduate of Salem- Oak Harbor High School. Marie had worked at Erie Proving Grounds until 1945 when she became a homemaker. On December 28, 1946 she married Orlo C. Kern who preceded her in death September 23, 1996. Marie loved word-find puzzles, collected cardinals, and would often be seen walking uptown from her home. She was an avid Oak Harbor Rockets Fan and was supportive to all the clubs at the school. Survivors include her children Dennis (Brenda) Kern and Barbara (Gary) Phillabaum both of Port Clinton, OH; grandchildren: Angela (Matt) Crone, David Kruse, Cynthia (Dan) Sizemore, Dawn (Lawrence) Boykin, and Jonathan (Nichole) Royster; and several great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Gary Kern, brother Robert Wendt, and sisters: Thelma Avers, Doris Kardotzke, and Norma Jean Velliquette. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor Chapel with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8pm. Graveside services will begin at 10am Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Salem Twp. Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial Contributions may be given to Stein Hospice, American Cancer Society, or Riverview Cottage Cove. The family would like to give special thanks to Cottage Cove located at the Riverview Health Care Campus, Heartland Home Care, and Stein Hospice.
