Marian M. Winter

November 12, 1925 — October 22, 2008

Marian Mae (Schultz) Winter, 82, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Wednesday at her home. She was born in Carroll Township, Ottawa County, on November 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Louis & Alma (Henderlich) Schultz. Marian was a 1943 graduate of Salem-Oak Harbor High School. In 1951, she married Paul J. Winter, and he preceded her in death in 1983. Marian started her secretarial career while still in high school by working for the Ohio State Cooperative Extension Service in Oak Harbor, where she worked from 1943-1951, and periodically after that. She was always very proud of her work there. Marian worked for the Ottawa County Agricultural Society as the secretary/treasurer from 1967 to 1987. She loved the fair and all the people she met over the years. It was forever a part of her life. Marian was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, where she was the secretary for many years. A member of the Ladies Afternoon Guild of the church, she also taught vacation Bible school, and along with her husband Paul, was a Youth Fellowship advisor in the 1950's. She was always active in and dedicated to her church. Marian was a 40 plus year member of the Riverview Nursing Home Auxiliary, and served as secretary and reporter. She typed the annual newsletters for many years as well as attending countless birthday parties, resident teas, and doing whatever she felt would help make the residents happier. Marian was the editor of the newsletter of the Oak Harbor Rotary Club, "The Spokesman" for many years. She was a 4-H club leader for the Happy Hour 4-H club. She was also a member of the Por-Tou-San "Three Rivers" Chapter of the Professional Secretaries International. In 1988, she was honored by the Ottawa County Board of Social Concerns and the United Way for outstanding volunteer service on behalf of the residents of Ottawa County. Marian loved to dance and roller skate, and was an accomplished seamstress who sewed professionally for many years. She loved to mow her lawn and do gardening, especially planting petunias and decorating her yard. She had an extensive collection of scrapbooks full of newspaper clippings from area papers, spanning over 60 years. Marian is survived by her daughter, Laura Winter, and a very special son-in-law, Randy Laubacher. Also surviving are nieces and nephews and her special friend, Tony Heinsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-father, Alex Yesse, and sisters, Ruth Worthington and Gladys Sess. The family will receive friends from 12-8 P.M. Friday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Marian's family would like to thank Kathy Manrow of Pro Health Partners for all her kind help and guidance, and also thanks to special friends, Gina Boals and Sandy Rhodes. Marian lived her life always trying to do something for someone else, and to do what she though God would want her to do. Funeral Home: Crosser Funeral Home - Oak Harbor Chapel 301 N.
