Margaret J. McDavitt, 69, of Port Clinton, OH died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at her residence. She was born on December 21, 1938 in Fremont, OH, the daughter of the late Kyle D. & Betty J. (Shirk) Rider. She began her working career as a waitress at the former Mayhew's Restaurant, Port Clinton, then went to work at the former Captain Parker's Restaurant which was located near the ferry boat dock at Put-in-Bay. She also worked for Uniroyal Coated Fabrics, at Erie Industrial Park, Port Clinton where she was an inspector for 27 years until her retirement. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, and a member of the women of the Moose, Port Clinton. Her hobbies included crocheting, ceramics, geneology, and planting flowers. She was an avid reader and read every book on every president and their wives, except one. She was also a loving caregiver for eight people. Survivors include her husband Earl, whom she married on March 24, 1955; son, Earl Kyle McDavitt, Port Clinton; daughters, Peggy Sue (Ernie) Taylor, Port Clinton; Kay Lynn (Ron) Van Deusen, Pendleton, IN; Terri Jean (Scott) Fox, Grove City, OH; Mary Ann McDavitt, North Royalton, OH; grandchildren: Micheal Francis and Dakota "Cody" McDavitt, Tim Allen McDavitt, Eleanor Rose McDavitt, Earl James McDavitt, Michael Patrick McDavitt, Bethany "Beth" Anne Gupton, Jonathon "Jon" Ernest Taylor, Carolyn Taylor, Joseph and Jessica Van Deusen; six great grandchildren; brother, Charles "Chuck" (Trudy) Rider, of Catawba Island; sisters, Dorothy Hoag, Lake Orion, MI, and Jane (Jack) Robinson, Midland, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Wesley Fox; great granddaughter, Olivia McDavitt; and brother, Paul Rider. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, where the Rosary will be recited by Deacon Maury Hall at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 3, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, with Reverend John C. Missler celebrant. Interment will follow in Rusha Cemetery, Carroll Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Stein Hospice.
