Margaret F. Steindam, 103, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 26, 1918, a daughter of the late William & Clara (Kessler) Darr. Margaret attended Oak Harbor schools and was an active member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, where she belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. On June 5, 1943, she married Wilbur Steindam and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1981 after nearly 38 years of marriage. Margaret is survived by her children, Sharon (John Fagan) Steindam, Elmhurst, IL, Marilyn Palmer, Oregon, OH, William (Mary) Steindam, Oak Harbor, and Thomas (Carmel) Steindam, Falls Church, VA; granddaughters, Tammy (Matt) Myers, and Claire (Francis) Nguyen; 2 great-grandchildren Allison and Breanna Myers, and her sister, Monica Steindam. She was also preceded in death by 6 siblings, and a son-in-law, Douglas Palmer. Margaret’s hobbies included maintaining the home she lived in for over 70 years. Neighbors and friends often commented on her devotion to her gardening and yard work. During the summer months, it was not unusual to see Margaret checking her lawn and flowers well into dusk. She also enjoyed travel- especially visiting her children who lived in California, Northern Virginia, and Illinois at different times in their lives. Margaret had no fear of long distance travel either as she was more than willing to travel by air independently- as long as there was a family member ready to greet her upon her arrival. For years, Margaret was a member of pinochle clubs- often made up of women from St. Boniface. In later years, she was always ready for a card game at any holiday or family event. Her sister Monica- 1year older- was a regular pinochle partner of hers. The two were always anxious to play “just one more game”- even if younger family members were ready to retire for the evening. The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM Sunday at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Monday, February 28, 2022 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 215 Church St., Oak Harbor. The Most Reverend Joel M. Konzen, S.M., Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta, and The Rev. Fr. Timothy F. Ferris will concelebrate, and interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Those planning on making a memorial contribution are asked to please consider St. Boniface Catholic Church or School, or the American Heart Association.
