Madeline Ochs

November 18, 1929 — September 9, 2012

Madeline L. Ochs, 82, of Catawba Island, died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at her residence. She was born on November 18, 1929 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of the late John Phillips and Madeline K. (O'Harn) Lowe. Madeline was a 1947 graduate Port Clinton High School, and then went to college at The Ohio State University, graduating in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in home economics. She married Ambrose J. "Bud" Ochs III on May 16, 1953 and he preceded her in death on July 12, 2004. Madeline was a homemaker and also taught home economics at St. Joseph High School in Fremont, Ohio. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton where she was also a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the parish bible study group. She was also an avid bridge player, having joined several bridge clubs. She loved boating and being on the water. Her hobbies included crocheting and knitting. Her family was very important to her, and she will be affectionately remembered for her one liners. Survivors include her son: Paul (Tina) Ochs, Catawba Island; daughters: Monica (Karl) Busby, Catawba Island and Carolyn (Tom) Pope, Port Clinton; grandchildren: Erin (Don) Price, Brad (Briana) Busby, Stephen, Karlie, Kacie Busby, Nicholas & Evan Pope, Emily & Alec Ochs; great grandson: Brayden Busby; daughter-in-law: Joyce Ochs, St. Joseph, Michigan; and her canine companions: Keilo and Bentley; and Sam the cat. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son: Ambrose J. "Buzz" Ochs IV, and grandson: Jonathon Pope. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Prayers will begin at the funeral home at 1pm on Thursday, September 13, 2012 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jonathon Pope Foundation; Stein Hospice; or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
