Louis “Darwin” Geldien, 88 of Oak Harbor, OH died Sunday, December 31, 2023 under Hospice Care at the home of his daughter. He was born August 22, 1935 in Toledo, OH to the late Louis C. and Lucille M. (Winkel) Geldien. Darwin worked for Woolson Spice for 12 years and spent 31 years at Chrysler- Toledo Machining in Quality Control retiring in 1997. He also served as past president for AFL-CIO #349. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor.
Darwin was a Boy Scout Leader for 12 years. He also loved to travel, having been to all 50 States. He was a collector of an eclectic variety of items, including guns, knives, and antiques. He spent a lot of time at flea markets, buying and selling. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodworking, camping, and cars. He could build most anything. He will be remembered as someone who was always available to talk and give advice, and if you needed anything, more than likely he had it and would give it to you.
He leaves behind 3 daughters: Patti Bango, Shelli Lajti, and Holli Brecht; grandchildren: Nichole, Travis, Kaci, Haili, Bronson, and Maryl; 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who considered him a father figure. He will be deeply missed. He was also preceded in death by his brother Lowell Geldien; sisters: Doris Paul and Marilyn Huffman; great-grandchildren Louis and Bailey.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Locust Point Cemetery, Carroll Township. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Donor’s Choice.
