Loren E. Nowak

July 12, 1932 — March 24, 2024

Loren E. Nowak, 91 of Elmore, OH died Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo after a brief period of medical setbacks. He was born July 12, 1932 in Elmore, OH to the late Edward and Elfrieda (Oehmke) Nowak. He was a 1951 graduate of Harris-Elmore High School and was drafted in 1952 to serve in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 7, 1952 he married Ursula Jane (Foos) Nowak, who preceded him in death on May 21, 2016. Loren retired December 31, 1994 as a truck driver for Refiners Transport in Oregon, OH. He was a member of Bethel Church and American Legion Post #279, both of Elmore, and the retired Teamsters in Clyde, OH. He was known to be a true jack of all trades and interests: HEFD volunteer fireman while working at Elmore's grain elevator, aviation training, square dancing, bowling, playing cards, small social events, and enjoyed traveling on Vegas and Branson trips with friends.


Survivors include his 4 children: Marie (Bob) Babjack of Elmore, OH, Tom (Terri) Nowak of Elmore, OH, Joyce (Bruce) Moore of Dunnellon, FL, and Laura Hazel of Elmore, OH; 17 grandchildren including 2 step-grandchildren: John (Andrea) Babjack, Michelle (Isaac) Moreno, David Babjack, Mark Babjack, Kristen (Tommy) Shannon; Dan (Lisa) Nowak, Tim (Tara L.) Nowak, Joe (Sara) Nowak, Sam (Nicole W.) Nowak; Bill (Carla) Murray, Amanda Mitchell, Angela Murray, Alex Murray; Stephanie (Buddy) Perkins, Katie (Danny C.) Susor, Sydney and Joshua Hazel; 28 great-grandchildren including 4 step great-grandchildren: Matthew, Clara, Ben, Jovie, Ellie, Madeleine; Gabe, Leo, Natalie, Jake, Parker, Layla, Jaden, Oliver, Ellis, Maddison, Kennedi, Scarlett; Andrew, Brad (Tyler); Jade, James, Samantha, Zoey; Collin, Logan, Titus, Atlas; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Scarlett and Luka. Also surviving are his 2 sisters: MaryAnn Schimming and Jeanene Brough. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant granddaughter (Crystal Murray) and step grandson (Jacob Hazel).


To know him was to love him. He provided a sense of calm leadership and genuine kindness, as shown through his warm smile and friendly handshake. He was an unselfish provider not only to his family, but to many others around him. As a true man of his word, his honesty, integrity and faith could always be counted on. An honor and blessing to share in his life, he will be missed in many ways.


Memorial Services will begin at 11am on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Bethel Church, 2920 S. SR 590, Elmore, OH 43416, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be held privately in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore. Memorial Contributions may be given to Bethel Church or American Legion Post #279, PO Box 612, Elmore.
