Lois Ardis Sandrock

Lois "Ardis" Sandrock, 83, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Monday, February 11, 2008 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on September 27, 1924 in Fremont, Ohio, the daughter of the late Wilson O. and Lois Edna (Ford) Shannon. She was a descendent of a pioneer family in Sandusky County. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1943 and went to the Sandusky Business College where she graduated in 1945. She worked as a custodian for the Port Clinton City Schools until her retirement. In the mid 1980's she was nominated for "Woman of the Year" for doing community service in Port Clinton. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, where she was an organist and sang in the church choir; a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Catawba Island, where she was an organist, a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir, and served as the church secretary for 10 years; member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury Twp. where she was an organist, sang in the church choir, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Catawba Island Garden Club. Her hobbies included being a 4H advisor; den leader for the cub scouts; member of the bicentennial committee for Catawba Island, and an auxiliary volunteer as a secretary-treasurer for the Luther Home of Mercy, Williston. She was a devoted and loving Mom, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Edward Sandrock, Jr. whom she married on April 27, 1946; children: Linda E. (William) Petterson, Houston, TX; John E. (Camille) Sandrock, Cleveland, OH; David L. Sandrock, Columbus, OH; James A. (Cheryl) Sandrock, Oak Harbor, OH; Paul F. (Patti) Sandrock, Port Clinton, OH; Thomas W. Sandrock, Columbus, OH; Alice A. (Richard) Chaffin, Sandusky, OH; daughters-in-law: "Nikki" Sandrock, Pensacola, FL; Kathy Sandrock, Virginia Beach, VA; Cheri Sandrock, Columbus, OH; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother: Eldon Shannon, Nashville, TN and sister: Martha Meggitt, Lansing, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter in law: "Janie" Sandrock; brothers: Norman, Ford, & Warren Shannon and a sister: Janis Brady. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, with Rev. Karl Kessler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zenobia Shrine, Toledo, Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, in memory of Laurabelle Sandrock, or Stein Hospice.
