Leland C. Rutherford

Leland C. Rutherford, 81 of Elmore, OH died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon, OH. He was born January 22, 1931 in Green Creek Township, Sandusky County, OH to the late Charles and Helen (Wadsworth) Rutherford. He was a 1948 graduate of Old Fort High School. On April 28, 1957 he married the former Ethel Damschroder and she survives. Leland started working as a farmer alongside his father, but then became a custom applicator for many different agriculture firms. He retired in 1993 as Manager for Luckey Farmers Inc., Elmore. He was a member of St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore. He also was a volunteer firefighter for the Harris- Elmore Fire Dept., held membership in Green Springs Masonic Lodge #427 F.& A.M., past Elmore Lions member, and Elmore Board of Public Affairs. Leland also served as Mayor of Elmore from 1979 1991. He enjoyed traveling, working with stained glass and woodworking. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ethel of Elmore; sons: Kevin (Cathy) Rutherford of Perrysburg, OH and John (Clara) Rutherford of Springfield, MO.; sisters: Mercedes (Duane) Fruth of Bascom, OH and Carol (Larry) Ballard of Bowling Green, OH; grandchildren Anna and Matthew Rutherford and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore- Genoa Chapel. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore, with the Rev. Melissa Steinecker officiating. Burial will be in Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church.
