Laverne M. Schultz

Laverne M. Schultz, 93, of Catawba Island, died Monday, August 11, 2008 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton. She was born on December 27, 1914, in Gypsum, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Leu (Truax) Havener. One June 1, 1935, she married Carl E. Schultz and he preceded her in death on June 15, 2000. Laverne worked at the Erie Army Depot, Port Clinton until it closed. She then held many waitressing jobs including the former Beach Club, which is now the Catawba Island Club; the Cliff House on Catawba Island; Jake's Ark in Port Clinton; and finally at the Mon Ami Retaurant where she retired in 1985. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, where she was active in the Hannah Circle; member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge #1610, Port Clinton; and numerous card clubs. Her hobbies included gardening and she was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. Survivors include her son: Larry E. Schultz, Catawba Island; Eight grandchildren; Six great-grandchildren; Two great-great grandchildren; Five step great-grandchildren, and a sister: Ruth Mascari, Fremont, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Beverly J. Kosztyo; brothers: Russell, Gerald, Bernard, Merle, Alfred, Robert, and Harold Havener; and sister: Harriet Lieske. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 from 5-8 PM at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM with additional visitation from 10-11:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 900 Jefferson St, Port Clinton. Reverend Karl Kessler will officiate. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Catawba EMS.
