Larry J. Gardner, 62, of Fremont, OH, and formerly of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Monday at his home. He was born in Port Clinton, OH on October 31, 1954, a son of Joe & Alice (Stahl) Gardner. Larry was a proud 1973 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, where he was known for portraying "Rollie the Rocket", and studied business at Southern New Hampshire University. Larry was a long time employee of Walmart in Fremont, retiring in November of 2016. An avid sports fan, Larry loved The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cleveland Indians. For nearly his whole life he has been a regular fixture at the Fremont Speedway and had many good times with his friends there. Larry also was a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Humane Society. Larry was known for his kind and gentle nature and made many friends wherever he went. He is survived by many cousins; his friends from OHHS Class of '73; his coworkers and friends at Walmart, and his beloved cat, Charlie. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim Gardner. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 29, 2017 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 17955 W. Third St., Elliston, OH with Rev. Kyle Timmons officiating. Interment will be at Limestone Cemetery, Limestone, OH. Following the services, a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry J. Gardner -Rollie the Rocket- Scholarship Fund.
