Kermit W. Schultz, 88, of Holland, Ohio, and formerly of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Flower Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio. He was born in Oak Harbor on August 10, 1920, a son of William & Helen (Giesler) Schultz. Kermit was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, where he was a dog trainer. On April 9, 1942, he married the former Wilma E. Fredrick, and she preceded him in death on September 15, 2007. A lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, he was a member of the Senior Choir of the church for many years, and also was called upon to sing at weddings. Kermit's father, William Schultz, was a builder of the present church structure. Kermit and Wilma greatly enjoyed playing cards and socializing with their friends. Loving the outdoors, Kermit was a boater, fisherman, and hunter. He also was handy in doing things around their home, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family. Kermit is survived by his children, Joyce (Edward) Shultz, Sylvania, Ohio, Karen (Wayne) Mauk, Toledo, Ohio; and William (Laura) Schultz, Tiffin, Ohio; grandchildren, Andrew and Kyle Mauk; Jonathan, Eric, and Nathan Shultz; and a step-granddaughter, Nicole. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Lila Mauk, and Madison and Claire Shultz. Kermit was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother, Wilbur Schultz. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Rev. David A. Voll will officiate, and interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, or Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek, Holland, Ohio.
