Kenneth L. Monak

Kenneth L. Monak, 81, of Marblehead, Ohio died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on June 2, 1927 in Marblehead, Ohio, the son of the late Michael and Lena (Boytim) Monak. On June 2, 1956 he married Leona (Skrinak) and she survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was also a Merchant Marine, where he sailed around the world. He worked on the assembly line at the Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, Ohio, retiring in 1989. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, and also a lifetime member of the Marblehead VFW Post #7572. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and being a "handyman" as he was always helping others in need. Survivors include his wife: Leona; children: Timothy (Annie) Monak and their son: Timothy, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois; Russell Monak, of Columbus, Ohio; LeAnn (David) Schoen and their children: Jack, Ellen and Caroline, of Perrysburg, Ohio; and Gary (Nancy) Monak and their children Molly and Pete, of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother: Norbert (Pat) Monak, and sister: Lucille Kukay, both of Marblehead. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Melvin, Edmond, and infant brother Michael and sister: Patricia. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead where prayer services will be held at 2 PM by Reverend Daniel J. Ring and where a rosary will be recited by members of the Altar-Rosary Society of St. Joseph Catholic Church at 7 PM. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 9:00 AM until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead with Reverend Daniel J. Ring, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donor's Choice.
