Kenneth J. Kania, Sr. A wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, Pop-Pop and friend, Kenneth J. Kania, Sr. entered into Heaven on May 18, 2008, at Stein Hospice in Sandusky. He was born February 7, 1945, to Roman and Eleanor (Wongroski) Kania in Toledo OH. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1963. After attending Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo, he completed the apprenticeship program for the Local #8 IBEW, and enjoyed a 40 plus year career as an electrician. He taught electrical theory and served on the loan committee for the Local 8 Credit Union for several years. A long-time member of North Cape Yacht Club, Ken served on the Board of Trustees, was Junior Sailing Chairman, and Grounds Chairman at different times. Ken was an avid sailor competing in races in both the Great Lakes and oceans. He loved to fly and participated in Angel Flights. After building his home at Put-in-Bay, Ken became an active community member. He was a past president of the Perry Group, a board member of the Put-in-Bay Property Owners Association and the AYC delegate from Put-in-Bay Yacht Club. He was also a member of Mother of Sorrows Church, the Crew's Nest, American Legion Post 542, and the L.E.I.H.S. Ken was the president of the Skip Duggan Antique Car Club and had a wonderful time in his 1927 Model T, especially when he could drive his grandchildren around the island. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas and stepfather, Walter Nowak. He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Kenneth (Kristen) Kania Jr. and Brad (Jennifer) Kania, and his very special grandchildren, Jed, Judah, Zion, Salem, and Katy. Ken touched many lives and will be remembered for his willingness to help both family and friends; his sense of humor and his personal integrity. He will live on in the hearts of many. The family suggests donations be made in Ken's name to Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH; Put-in-Bay EMS, The Perry Group, or the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society all of Put-in-Bay.
