Kenneth D. Wendt, 81, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Salem Township, Ottawa County on November 16, 1928, the son of the late Donald & Iola (Hamann) Wendt. A graduate of the former Salem-Oak Harbor High School, Kenneth was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany. He married the former Jeannine E. Martin on July 1, 1949, and she preceded him in death on March 15, 2009. Kenneth was a retired employee of the former Standard Products Company, Port Clinton, where he worked for 45 years, and was vice president of the United Auto Workers in Port Clinton for many years. Previously he was employed by the former Hemminger Marine Sales in Oak Harbor. An active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, Kenneth was a long time member of the church council and served as president and treasurer of the congregation for several terms. He also was a member of the Senior Choir of the church and served the congregation as custodian for many years. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Kenneth also greatly enjoyed woodworking, tending his yard and roses, and following NASCAR with his family. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy (Richard) Spangler, Oak Harbor; sister, Carol (Amadeo) Estrada, Oak Harbor; brother, Gary (Carrol) Wendt, Pine, Arizona; and grandsons, Christopher and Scott Spangler. The family will receive friends from 2-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David A. Voll officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the church; the Ottawa County Humane Society, Stein Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.
