Kathryn G. Smit, 68, Catawba Island, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 21, 2014 at her son's home after a brief illness. She was born May 31, 1946 in Dunkirk, NY the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Miles) Goth. She married Johannes G. Smit on August 2, 1969 and he survives. Mrs. Smit retired from the Chautauqua County Health Department in New York May 2008. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton, OH. Surviving are her husband: Johannes; son: Thomas (Christine) Smit of Port Clinton; daughter: Amy Gloeckner of Westerville, OH; brother: Michael (Shirley) Goth of Hilton, NY; many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Thomas Goth; sisters: Margaret Rexford, Theresa Mancuso and Martha Goth. Kathy will be remembered by many for her generosity and big heart. She was always there for her friends and family whenever anyone needed her. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Port Clinton, OH. Rosary will be recited at 7:30pm at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Misler 10:00 am Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church with prayer services starting at 9:30 am Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Catawba Island Cemetery following mass. Please join the family at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 109 E Perry Street following burial for a luncheon. Memorial donations may be made to Stein Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
