Karl E. Steindam, 85, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Riverview Senior Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor, Ohio. He was born on September 24, 1922 in Genoa, Ohio, a son of the late Otto & Ester (Coleman) Steindam. On June 25, 1942 he married Angela Darr and she preceded him in death on August 1, 1989. Karl was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during World War II. After he was released from the Army, he came back to Port Clinton and went to work at the former Erie Army Depot from 1945-1966. He then worked for the U.S. Government in Kaiserslautern, Germany as a manager in quality control from 1966 to 1971, then transferred to Harrisburg, PA where he worked from 1971 until his retirement in 1973. During the mid 1950's, he owned Steindam Lawn Mower Shop where he repaired mowers for over 10 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton; member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a member of the Tuesday Men's Prayer Breakfast group. Karl loved to travel. He traveled all over the United States and Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania. He also loved photography, and took numerous pictures everywhere he went. Karl loved to be busy and enjoyed being "Mr. Fix It" for family and neighbors- including cutting down trees. He was a people person as his family and friends will most remember him as the "King of Positive". Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn Steindam, North Lauderdale, FL; sons, Richard (Constance) Steindam, Cumming, GA, Gerald (Darlene) (Fatiga) Steindam, Green Valley, AZ, Dennis (Nancy) Steindam, Glendale, AZ; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; companion, Jeanne O'Neal, Port Clinton; and his brother, Junior Steindam, Pataskala, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers, Norman "Dewey", Wilbur, and Bernard Steindam. The family will receive friends from 28 PM Thursday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Friday, May 9, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison St, Port Clinton with Reverend John C. Missler, celebrant. Interment will be Saturday May 10th at 10 a.m. in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
