Judith A. Detzel

May 1, 1941 — January 17, 2022

Judith Ann Detzel, 80, of Graytown, Ohio, died peacefully Monday, January 17, 2022, with her loving family close by. She was born and raised in Fremont, Ohio, on May 1, 1941, to Peg (Marian) and Cyril Meyer. Judy graduated from Fremont St. Joseph High School in 1959. That same year, Judy married the love of her life, Bill Detzel. Through their 62 years of marriage, they raised five children who blessed them with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Judy worked in the deli/bakery at various grocery stores, including Latham’s, Bassett’s, and Community Market. She loved spending time with her family, especially when the entire family gathered for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Judy's smile, spirit and generous caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be best remembered as a loving and selfless wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma who loved her family with her whole heart. Even at the end, she wanted to make sure we would all take care of each other. Our world will be a bit dimmer without her. We were all lucky to have her in our lives. Judy’s memory will be cherished by her husband, Bill Detzel; children, Larry (Pat) Detzel, Cindy (Harry) Teeple, Debbie (Tim) Piercefield, Bill (Jolene) Detzel; grandchildren, Jackie (Keith) Stephens, Tiffany (Josh Shelenberger) Detzel, Julie Piercefield, Kelly Detzel, Stephen (Ashley) Detzel, Emily Detzel, Max (Emily) Detzel, and Mike Detzel; great grandchildren, Sydney Stephens and Mason Stephens; siblings, Larry (Janet) Meyer, Margaret (Jim) Woodruff, Ken (Jeanne) Meyer, Connie (Tim) Pegg. Judy was preceded in death by son, David Detzel, son-in-law,Harry Teeple, niece/goddaughter, Holly O’Neal, parents, Peg and Cyril Meyer, and sister, Janet Winter. We are thankful to the caregivers at Stein Hospice and Magruder Hospital who lovingly and compassionately cared for Judy during her final days. Visitation will be held, Monday, January 24, from 3-8pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home, 301 N. Locust St, Oak Harbor, where a parish wake service will be held at 8pm. Prayers will be recited at 10:15am on Tuesday, January 25, at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 215 Church St., Oak Harbor. Father Timothy F. Ferris will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
