Joy Jeneva Magsig Bothe Perry was born in a small farmhouse built by her father in Elmore, Ohio June 26, 1925 to John and Evea (Eckel) Magsig. Joy was the youngest of child and had 4 older brothers. Her parents, Evea and John were strong, simple, faithful German Methodists. She left the farm in Elmore after High School Graduation to attend Nursing School in Toledo, Ohio. She pursued a career that suited her perfectly. She was caring, compassionate and well respected at both Flower Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo, Ohio

Education was a top priority not only with herself but with her entire family. She received her master’s in education and began her career as a registered nurse. She later became a Surgical Nurse and had the unique opportunity to work in surgery with the first organ transplants at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She loved her career so much she wanted to teach up-and-coming student nurses and did so for many years. In her summers she also experienced the vocation of a visiting nurse.
She has lived in Perrysburg for 60 years and has been a member of Grace United Methodist Church for all those years as well. She sang in the choir, volunteered in many capacities and was a member of the United Methodist Woman.
She is survived by her 4 children, Kristine Headrick (Spouse Bruce Headrick), John Bothe (Spouse Tina Bothe), Sharon Chittick (Spouse Dan Chittick) and Jeri-Lee Hahn, all who grew up and attended school in Perrysburg. Kristine now resides in California, John in Perrysburg, Sharon in Philadelphia and Jeri-Lee in California. Her grandchildren are Azrrik Hahn, Havis Hahn, Davis Bothe, Daniel Chittick, Taylor Chittick and Wesley Chittick and her two Great Grand Children, Shea Chittick and Taj Bothe. She was preceded in death by her husbands’, Melvin Bothe and James Perry.
Joy will always be remembered for her faith in Jesus and her unconditional love for her children. The family will gather together at a later date to celebrate the gift that her life has given to us and so many. She will forever be in our hearts. She will be laid to rest in the Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH. Gift donations in honor of Joy Perry can be sent to Grace United Methodist Church, 601 E.
