Joseph S. Lucas, Jr., 77, of Marblehead, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, February 28, 2014 at his residence. He was born on September 1, 1936 in Marblehead, the son of the late Joseph D. and Mary (Kruchowsky) Lucas, Sr. He married Sandra Lee Howell on February 20, 1960 and she preceded him in death on August 19, 2008. Joe was a veteran of the United States Army. After he was discharged from the Army, he returned to Marblehead and worked at the former Standard Slag Quarry for 32 years, retiring as the Plant Superintendent in 1990. After he retired, he enjoyed working part time at Bass Haven Marina in Marblehead. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead where he was the longest serving usher for over 54 years and where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, church council, and the cemetery committee. He was very faithful, as he attended mass daily. His hobbies included collecting coins, riding around on his golf cart, telling stories and making people laugh, but most importantly, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children: James (Susan) Lucas of Marblehead; Cindy (Rick) Heydle of Youngstown, Ohio; Janet Lucas of Marblehead; Debra (Stephen) Svenson of Struthers, Ohio and William (Robyn) Lucas of Catawba Island; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother: Paul Lucas. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 2-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio where members of the St. Joseph Altar Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 7pm. On Tuesday, March 4, 2014 additional visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead from 9:30am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with Father Daniel J. Ring officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Heartland Hospice, especially to Anita, for all their care and compassion given to Joe.
