Joseph P. Schenk

Joseph P. Schenk, 95, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Thursday evening at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. He was born on September 20, 1911 in Seneca County, Ohio, a son of the late Phillip & Mary (Ecker) Schenk. Joe was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a munitions expert in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of the John A. Fader Post #114 of the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 8732, both of Oak Harbor. A parishioner of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, Joe was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. For many years, he was the owner and operator of the former Band Box Cleaners in Oak Harbor, retiring in 1975. Joe is survived by his sister, Agnes Zahn of Tiffin, OH; nieces & nephews, Virginia Hoover, Tom Zahn, Mike Zahn, Christine King, and Phillip Schenk. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis and Charles Schenk; sisters, Helen Smith, Marie Hoover, and Idella Green; and nephews, Clifford Hoover, and Kenneth Green. The family will receive friends from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. James E. Peiffer officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Tiffin, OH.
