Jon L. Fickert, 73 of Oak Harbor, OH passed to heaven on Saturday, December 21, 2024. He was born May 3, 1951 in Huntington, NY to the late Kurt and Madeline (Janda) Fickert. He was a 1969 graduate of Springfield North High School and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wittenburg University in 1973. Known for his gift to gab and make friends with everyone, his kindness and intellect will be missed immensely.
His passions were fishing and hunting. As an avid outdoorsman his adventures carried him far and wide. Whether it was fishing in the wild waters of Alaska or in the Northern Canadian wilderness, his fishing ability was uncanny. Living next to Lake Erie, it allowed for him to chase walleye in the open waters or try for other species year round. His special love for ice fishing big water was something he lived for! Hunting adventures varied from waterfowl in the marshes around the lake to hunting deer in the hills of southern Ohio. He had a special place for the outdoors and much success until even his last years. With his son at his side through the adventures he appreciated being able to pass on the variety of wealth of knowledge he had. Jon was known for his great ability to recount the memories of all of the impressive adventures over the years.
Jon retired in from Ottawa County, as a water treatment operator and specialist. With the early retirement it allowed him to serve the community with 3 terms as an Oak Harbor Village councilman. Many of his friends would be made along the way from his career and his time on Village Council.
Jon was able to do a lot with a little. A man who had some knowledge about everything. He could help with a wrench or offer advice to help someone along in life. He always put kindness first, a trait his parents also ingrained in him. He was amazingly strong willed. He appreciated family, friends, and those who cared for him throughout his journey. Please share a memory of him on the website as those are things we can cherish the most.
Survivors include his children: Jon Fickert of Oak Harbor, OH and Amy Southgate of St. Petersburg, FL; granddaughter Lily Southgate; sister Linda Mosbacher of Gahanna, OH; and brother Chris Fickert of New Carlise, OH.
