John W. Phillips

John W. Phillips, 88 of Oak Harbor, OH went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from Riverview Health Care Campus, Oak Harbor. He was born October 15, 1932 at home in Wood County, OH to the late Earl H. and Ruth I. (Grover) Phillips. He had to leave school early to help work on the farm. He served in the United States Army during peacetime between WW II and the Korean War. After being discharged, John ended up in Detroit, MI for 10-12 years working for Ford Motor Company in the executive kitchen as a meat- cutter. In the 1970’s, John moved onto the farm in Helena, OH where he farmed for many years until he retired and sold the farm. While in Helena he also worked for USG, a Pallet Company and Roots Farms. He moved to Oak Harbor around 1991 and owned a small farm in Salem Township. John was a Charter Member of Grace Baptist Church. He was a “pillar” of the Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee. He was a faithful member of the Church. On July 18, 1955 he married the former Kathleen Daniel who preceded him in death on July 18, 2003. Survivors include his son John D. “Danny” Phillips; 3 grandchildren; sisters: Elsie Hampton, Juanita Dennis, Clara Swartz, Mary Hernacki, and Judy Daniels. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Loretta Bourdeon and Joyce Rau, and brother Carrol “Bob” Phillips. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church, 325 Toussaint Portage Road, Oak Harbor, OH 43449 with visitation to begin at 10am until the time of the service. The Service will be officiated by friend and Pastor, Rick Bickelhaupt. Burial will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
