John W. Brough, 68 of Oak Harbor, OH passed away peacefully Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Cleveland Clinic- Fairview Hospital. He was born December 31, 1955 in Port Clinton, OH to Dewayne and Kathleen “Kitty” (Armbruster) Brough and was a 1974 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. John was a lifelong farmer and a beloved employee of Hansen Industries.
In addition to being a steward of the land, John was a servant to his community. He was integral in the formation of the Carroll Township Fire and E.M.S. Departments and as a Charter Member, served Carroll Township for over 45 years. Through unwavering dedication, John proudly led the Carroll Township Fire Department as Chief for over 15 years. He was also a devoted member of La Pointe United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, OH.
John wore many hats, but that of father and grandfather to “his girls” was the one he loved most. In them he instilled his passion for service, amiable nature, and of course a love for Ohio State football. Ever the companion, he always enjoyed having a co-pilot in the combine. John displayed a work ethic that was unmatched, tirelessly working in the fields by day only to lead meetings and training with the volunteer fire department in the evening, or take a call in the middle of the night to help others. His altruistic nature and generosity led to others best remembering him as someone who would be there for anyone in need, strangers and friends alike.
John leaves to cherish his memory his children: Dawn (Devin) Poole of Chicago, IL, Shawna Brough of Chicago, IL, and Serena (Austin Willis) Brough of Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Evelyn “Evie” and Alice Poole; his parents, siblings: Tom (Debra) Brough, Jerry Brough, LuAnn Blausey, Dean (Kami) Brough, and Larry Brough, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by infant twins, Nancy and Nathan Brough.
