John Scarpelli

John P. "Doc" Scarpelli, 60, of Put-in-Bay died Wednesday, September 3, 2009 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. He was born September 28, 1948 in Cleveland the son of the late Rocco and Evelyn (Mauer) Scarpelli. He married Margaret "Ruth" Fox on October 30, 1977 and she survives. Doc was an employee of Fox Stone Products for 30 years and has worked for Put-in-Bay Investments for the past five years. He is a United States Army Veteran serving in the 1st Calvary during Vietnam. He is a member of St Paul Episcopal Church where he was previously on the Vestry and he is a member of Put-in-Bay American Legion Post #542. He served on Put-in-Bay Village Council for eight years and since May of 2009 he has been the Mayor of Put-in-Bay. Surviving are his wife: Ruth; sons: Jon (Stephanie) Scarpelli, Joseph Scarpelli both of Put-in-Bay; grandchildren: Richard and Juliana; brother: Mark Scarpelli of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Sandra Szinte. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am Monday, September 7, 2009 at Mapleleaf Cemetery, Put-in-Bay followed by a Celebration of his Life at the Put-in-Bay Town Hall.
