John S. Verb, 77, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on March 10, 1941, a son of the late F. John & Alice R. (Hauck) Verb. John was a graduate of Oak Harbor High School and served in the National Guard for several years. He was employed by Libbey Glass in Toledo, and was the co-owner and operator of the Toussaint Tavern for many years. More recently he was a union carpenter, working at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station. John was one of the first citizens to become trained as both an EMT and Firefighter in Carroll Township, and was instrumental in the founding of Carroll Township Fire & E.M.S. He served as one of the first EMS chiefs in the early years of the department, and in 1982, was elected to the Carroll Township Board of Trustees. He went on to serve on the board for 32 years, the longest serving township trustee in the history of Carroll Township, to date. On October 10, 1970, John married the former Judy Finken, and she survives. Also surviving are their children, Joe (Denise) Verb, and Jody (Shad Firsdon)Verb; sister, Charlene Verb; brother, Bob (Diane) Verb; grandchildren, Bryce Hinds, McKayla and Chase Firsdon, Zach Goetz, Ashley Myerholtz, Brandy Dusseau, Brock Goetz, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Frank Verb. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 28, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams St., Port Clinton, Ohio. The Rev. Dr. James N. Lehman will officiate, and interment will follow at Locust Point Cemetery, Carroll Township. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at Carroll Township Hall.
