John S. Halstead

John S. Halstead, 87, of Catawba Island, died Sunday June 29, 2008 at Riverview Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor. He was born September 24, 1920 in Erie Township, the son of Samuel and Orilla (Whiting) Halstead. John retired from the Erie Army Depot in 1966. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army, was a member of the VFW Post 2480 of Port Clinton and a former member of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his daughter Sandra (Carl) Taylor of Oak Harbor; sons Stan and Sam (Cathy) both of Catawba Island, Mike of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a sister Ruth Marsch of Catawba Island. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty on February 22, 2006; a son John; his parents and a sister Betty Rollheiser. At his request, no visitation or services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Stein Hospice or the Donor's choice.
