John S. Danchisen

John S. Danchisen, 97, died unexpectedly at his home on January 18, 2017. John was born January 6, 1920 in Marblehead, Ohio and was the oldest lifelong resident of the Village of Marblehead. He was the son of Michael and Mary Cherveny Danchisen. He graduated from Lakeside High School in 1937. John worked at New Departure and Biro Manufacturing and spent over 30 years at the Marblehead Bank, retiring in 1986 as assistant vice president. He and his wife, Delores Luska Danchisen, who were married on October 10, 1953, owned and operated Greenwood Cottages from 1953 to 2000. John was a lifelong member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the church choir where he sang tenor. He also served as treasurer of the church council for many years. He enjoyed watching sports especially the Cleveland Indians, reading, taking care of his apple trees and decorating his trees and shrubs with Christmas lights. He is survived by his wife, Delores; daughters, Jane Danchisen Pittman of Winchester, Virginia and Joanne Danchisen Sauvey, and husband, Mark, of Hilliard, Ohio; grandchildren, Marilee Danchisen Clemons, and husband, David, of Columbus, Ohio; and Drew and Nicholas Sauvey of Hilliard, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mary "Marcha" Luska; and niece, Mary Lou Snider Shrock, and nephew, George J. Danchisen, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Michael Danchisen; sister, Mary Danchisen Snider; and niece, Patricia Snider. Visitation will be held at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 4 - 8 p.m. with a Parastas Service for the repose of the departed at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 506 E. Main Street, Marblehead from 9 a.m. until the Panachida Service at 9:45 a.m. The Office of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. with Father Robert Kelly officiating, and Helen Jean Cooley as cantor.
