John M. "Jack" Hopfinger, 89, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on October 5, 1928 in Port Clinton, Ohio, a son of the late John M. and Alice (Conley) Hopfinger. On December 4, 1954 he married Jacqueline S. Winnie and she preceded him in death on October 19, 2014. Jack was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War in Okinawa Japan. He worked for Prudential Insurance Agency in Port Clinton for 30 years retiring in 1987. He was then appointed and served on the Ottawa County Veterans Service Commission for 14 years. Jack was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a 62 year member of the Port Clinton American Legion Post 113 where he actively participated in the Honor Guard; life member of the Port Clinton VFW Post 2480; member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge 1718; member of the Port Clinton Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1610; and member of the Port Clinton Eagles Lodge Aerie 2295. He enjoyed duck hunting, golfing, horse racing, and traveling. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan as well as The Ohio State Buckeyes. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his son, John Hopfinger, Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Jane Hopfinger (Jim Koska), Nelsonville, Ohio; sister, Lois Diedrich, Alpena, Michigan; nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hopfinger and sisters, Margaret Mulligan, Amie Hyde, and Agnes Brindley. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 2-7pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Members of the Elks will conduct a service at 4 pm. On Monday, February 19, 2018, prayers will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, Ohio with Father John Missler officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton with military honors conducted by members of the American Legion and VFW. Memorial contributions may be donated to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, or to a Veterans Organization of your choice.
