John "Jack" Griffiths of Marblehead, Ohio, passed peacefully on Feb. 5, 2018. He was a gentle soul within a resilient and sturdy exterior. A father and grandfather to all, he was a selfless man with strong hands, a quick wit and a warm smile. He was a true "Jack" of all trades, enjoying a number of interests, including fishing, gardening (both vegetable and his famous tulips), tinkering in his workshop, taking an evening summer drive in his orange dune buggy, kicking back in his Jacuzzi, yard sale-ing, playing dominoes and horseshoes, and, of course, spending time with his many friends and family. Jack was also an avid bowler, spending six days a week on the lanes in his younger years. He was born John Murlin Griffiths on June 27, 1934, in Marion, Ohio, to Benjamin and Alice Griffiths. After graduating early from Cardington High School in Marion, Jack joined the Army where he served overseas in the Korean War as a courier, a mason and a decoder. During those years, he was also a member of a traveling softball league - playing in such locations as Hawaii and Japan. After the Army, Jack returned to Ohio and eventually married Mary "Pat" Calbert on June 13, 1959. The couple had three children - daughter Patricia (Patty), born on June 27th, Jacks 27th birthday, son John and youngest daughter Ginger. He also spent much of his time with nephews Jeff Stover, Denny Keller, Bob Weber, and Joe Harbolt, caring for each a great deal. A longtime resident of Marblehead, Jack worked at such industries as Port Clinton Manufacturing and Sandusky Foundry and Machine. Lending his hand at Snug Harbor on Bayshore Road, owned by his parents, he later took over as operator of its onsite store. Jack then moved on to become the owner of Catawba Fish Cleaning, where he was a known face in the fishing world for over 30 years. He is survived by daughters Patty (Tony) Brugnone and Ginger (Greg) Griffiths; sisters Joyce (Harold) Belt and Jean Wilson; grandchildren Amanda (Ryan) Straube, Ashley Brugnone and Tony Brugnone; and great-granddaughter Lizzy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat, son John and sister Joan Frano Robinson.
