John J. O’Neill, III, 70, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital, Fremont, OH. John was born on March 31, 1954 in Reading PA, a son of the late John J., II and Doris (Strausser) O’Neill.
A 1972 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School in Shillington, PA, John also earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Terra Community College in Fremont. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a Submariner in the Submarine Service. John was a retired Project Engineer at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Oak Harbor, where he had served for 35 years.
An active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, John was a current member of the church council and served as chairperson of the Christian Education Team. A dedicated volunteer, he was intentional in making his community a better place to live. He was a Boy Scout leader, a tutor for Grand Love, active in Sleep in Heavenly Peace beds for children, and had done mission work in Peru with his granddaughter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking and loved cars and Harleys.
On September 9, 1972, John married the former Rhonda Ulrich, and she survives, along with their sons, Sean (Heather) O’Neill, Centerville, OH, and Kyle O’Neill, Oak Harbor. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sophia, Brennan, Jackson, and Mallory; and his brother, Patrick (Rose) O’Neill, Wyomissing, PA.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday, April 19, 2024 at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint St., Oak Harbor with Pastor Darryl Hamm officiating.
