John D. Lustig, Jr.

May 10, 1940 — May 7, 2024

John D. Lustig Jr., 83 of Oak Harbor, OH died Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Riverview Health Care Campus, Oak Harbor with his wife and daughter by his side, following a brief illness. He was born May 10, 2024 in Ravenna, OH to the late John D. Sr. & Mary Isabelle (Lecky) Lustig. On August 7, 1965 he married the former Cassandra “Sandy” Riggs, and she survives.


John was a 1958 graduate of Barberton High School, received his undergraduate degree in Education from Glennville State College, and received his Master’s Degree in Counseling and School Psychology from the University of Toledo. John first taught at Queen Ann’s in Maryland as a high school math & science teacher. After obtaining higher education, he then moved to Gibsonburg, OH and was a Guidance Counselor for Woodville High School. He then retired from the Perrysburg School District as the School Psychologist, where he spent many years advising interns on their road to becoming School Psychologists. John was an educator for 44 years.


John was an athlete at heart, where he spent much of his young life in wrestling and football. Even into his 80’s he was participating in sports as he was just going to begin “Pickleball”. He loved golfing, where he belonged to Sycamore Golf Club in Fremont, OH. He also enjoyed being on the Lake, where he and his wife owned a Lake House for many years. He belonged to the Gibsonburg Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors for the Country Meadows Association in Oak Harbor. John also enjoyed playing racquetball, fishing, and boating, and riding his Harley. He was known as “Mr. Wonderful” to his Ohio & Michigan golf buddies.


Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sandy of Oak Harbor; daughter Jennifer (Bill) Giezie of Graytown, OH; grandchildren Will & Allie; sisters: Charlene (Patrick) Braun, Jackie (Rob) Sandidge, and Jan Stephens all of California; and brother-in-law Chuck (Linda) Riggs of Florida and many nieces & nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother James Lustig.

There will be no services for John as his wishes were to be cremated by Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Private Celebration of Life Services will be handled by the family. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Autism Society or BCS Schools- “Hope Squad” 11685 W. State Route 163, Oak Harbor, OH 43449.
