John D. Benko, 72, of Port Clinton, died Sunday October 15, 2006 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. He was born October 14, 1934 in Port Clinton, the son of John and Mary (Peto) Benko. John was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Sandusky; the Elk’s Lodge 285 of Sandusky, a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a member of the Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge and a 32° Mason. John was employed at US Gypsum Company for over 20 years and retired from Delphi in Sandusky after 20 years of service. Surviving are his longtime loving companion Bev Mackey of Port Clinton; his daughter Christine (Paul) Craft and his son Michael Benko, both of Sandusky; Sisters Helen (Andy) Grover and Judy (Dan) Mulligan; and brothers Steve (Nancy) Benko and Andy (Marlene) Benko all of Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lydia Engbring and a brother Nicholas in infancy. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 pm Wednesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where Masonic services will be at 7 pm Wednesday. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Lehman officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church general fund or the Humane Society of Ottawa County.
