John C. Haar

John C. "Hub" Haar, 57, has gone home. He died Monday, July 13, 2009 at his home in Elmore, OH. He was born in Fremont, OH December 27, 1951 to Calvin and Betty (Murray) Haar. He was a 1969 graduate of Woodmore High School. John had worked for Railroad Companies: Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk and Southern for nearly 40 years. He was currently employed as a Railroad Supervisor for Ann Arbor Railroad- Shortline Railroad in Toledo, OH. On December 27, 1975 he married the former Beverly Balliet. He was a professional magician, licensed professional pyrotechnition working for Pete Willet Fireworks, and Harris Township Trustee for many years. He was also a member of St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church in Elmore, where he served on various committees. He loved to cook and travel the World. John was very active in Boy Scouts. He was a Scout Leader for Troop 314 in Elmore for many years as well as being involved with Boy Scout Council. He instructed "Woodbadge" Leadership Classes and was very proud of the many Eagle Scouts that Troop 314 produced. As a father, John was very proud of his children. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Beverly of Elmore; son Levi (Melissa) Haar of Genoa, OH; daughter Ashley Haar of Maumee, OH; parents Calvin and Betty Haar of Elmore; brother Jeff (Sam) Haar of Elmore; sister- in- laws: Kathy Haar of Naples, FL, Kathy Balliet of Elko, NV and Donna Witter of Oak Harbor, OH; lifetime friend "Buffalo", many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Ron Haar, in-laws: Louise and Tex Sleek, Glenn Witter, and Gene and Frances Balliet. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8pm with the family present 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore. Funeral Services will be held at 11am, Friday, July 17, 2009 at St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Stuhmer officiating. Burial will be Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given to Boy Scouts of America- Eagle Bay District, American Cancer Society or St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church.
