John Bankey

John Elmer Bankey, 73, of Marblehead, died Friday February 1, 2008 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. He was born January 12, 1935 in Tontogany, the son of Wilber and Gertrude (Myers) Bankey. John was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and was a retired school teacher. Mr. Bankey was a pioneer in the program of Marine Mechanics and was Ohio's first vocational instructor of high school students in the repair of marine engines, outdrives, fiberglass and wood hulls at the Vanguard-Sentinel Joint Vocational School. Surviving are his sons, John Bankey of Danville, VA, Michael Bankey of Bowling Green, OH, and David Bankey of Nashville, TN; one grandson, Bodie; brothers and sisters, Marion (Red), Beatrice, Donna, Richard, James, Judy, Eugene and Bobby. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen. At his request, all services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
