John A. Mercier

October 22, 1940 — August 5, 2008

John A. Mercier, 67, of Port Clinton, died Tuesday morning at Great Lakes Transitional Care in Sandusky. He was born October 22, 1940 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late James and Marion (Nichols) Mercier. John was employed in demonstration sales and enjoyed woodworking and was a self employed marine carpenter. He especially enjoyed playing Santa in Exton, PA for many years. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving five tours of duty during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Amvets post 17 and the VFW Post 2480 of Port Clinton. He loved cars, was an avid NASCAR fan, owned street rods and rebuilt a 1963 Ford Falcon from the ground up. John, much to the dismay of many, was an avid Michigan football fan. Surviving are his love of his life, wife Donna J. (Ward) whom he married on August 13, 1982; a brother Jim (Theresa) Mercier and sister Delphine Schultz and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 8 pm Thursday at the Neidecker, LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton where funeral services will be at 11 am Friday. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Ottawa County or Stein Hospice.
